Compo 1

“Hand over all your money!” The voice demanded threateningly. The voice sounded familiar. But who was it?

I hastened my pace through the deserted streets and hurried to see where the voice came from. To my profound horror, the voice came from Jamie, the head prefect! She was together with two boys. The taller boy had a pocked marked face which made him look intimidating; the other stocky boy had tattoos on his muscular arms and had beady eyes.

“Please don’t hurt me! I have no money at all!” a young and scrawny boy muttered fearfully.

Instantaneously, I recognized the voice. It was Luke’s voice, my dear brother! Should I save Luke? What if I get beaten instead? Flaming missiles of thought flooded my mind. I was in a dilemma. They cornered Luke and he was shaking with fear and terror. Luke was helpless. Truly helpless.

Mustering all my courage, I stormed towards them. “Stop hurting my brother!” I hollered. “Jamie, how could you being the head prefect, behave so atrociously?”

Jamie focused her attention on me, glaring at me with her penetrating eyeballs. That alone had made me scared stiff. My hands and legs were trembling with fear as I tried to regain my composure.

“You should know better the consequences of extorting money and bullying,” I retorted, trying to put on a tough look.

“You will never understand. I hate being a goodie goodie, the teachers’ pet. So what if I am the head prefect? So what!” Jamie exploded. “No one in my family ever cares! They think that I am just a puny, a miserable worm! My new gang are my true family!”

Jamie pointed at the two burly boys. One big tear rolled down her cheeks. For the first time, our eyes met eye to eye. The two boys were oblivious to their surrounding; they were yawning and digging their noses as they waited for Jamie’s order.

Coming quickly to her senses, Jamie beckoned for the two boys. “Now that Kelzin knows about this matter, we need to silent him! Get him!” Jamie hissed.

I wanted to run but my legs stood firmly to the ground. I was helpless! Without warning, they started raining blows on me. I pleaded for mercy but to no avail. When would the torture stop?

Not before long, my body was covered with bruises all over. My side ached and my chest throbbed with pain. I was weak. Powerless. “Please, don’t hurt my brother!” Luke pleaded pitifully, kneeling on the ground, grabbing Jamie’s leg.

“Step away, idiot!” Jamie snarled, pushing Luke unceremoniously to the ground.T

o my profound horror, Luke fell to the ground, hitting his head on a stone. Luke gave a shrill scream and collapsed to the ground. What had happened? Blood was oozing out from his head.I sprawled towards Luke. He was already unconscious.

“Please save him!” I wept. The two boys shrank in fear. Jamie was stuffing her knuckles against her mouth, trying to hold her screams. Blood drained from my face. My pulse raced. My eyes were clouded with fear. I felt helpless.

The two boys fled, stumbling in terror, not daring to look behind. They had left Jamie alone, stranded. I reached for my hand phone and punched in the numbers to call for the ambulance.

Jamie stood beside me, trembling at the brink of hysteria. Her hands turned cold and clammy. The ambulance came and brought Luke to the hospital. I was told later on that Luke suffered from brain concussion.

My mouth felt parched .My whole world seemed to have collapsed. My parents were devastated. As for Jamie, her name in school was tarnished and she was expelled from school. Now she was alone on her own. Helpless.

Chapter 3

"Kid, we can't have you in our soccer team," the coach declared."How about being a substitute for the team?"

George face lit up. At least, he could be in the team. " Thank you, Sir. My mane is George. Can I start training now? " George questioned eagerly. He was overjoyed, he was part of the team now!

" Kid, you don't have proper attire and shoes, you can't play now,'' the coach said. George ran home to tell his father the good news, but he had forgotten something. His family was not rich, in fact, they were very poor.

George was very troubled over this. "It has been my dream to be a soccer player, but...'' George muttered. Just then, his father and sister came home.

"Dad, I...erm,'' I mumbled. " The soccer coach had agreed to let me be in the soccer team.''

"Wow, Dad is proud of you! Are you a defender, attacker or goal keeper?" George's father questioned eagerly.

"Listen Dad, I am just a...substitute, but I will also have training together with the players.'' George said. "Plus, I also need soccer attire and shoes.

His father's face fell. But at least, he was part of the team. "A substitute? That is also not bad!" George's father said aloud. " I will buy you the soccer materials tomorrow."

"Really, Dad? Thank you! You are the best!'' George exclaimed. ''I need to go out for a moment, I will be back before dinner."

George skipped to the playground where he would meet Lenny everyday. George lied on the slide as he waited for Lenny.

Again, the memories of his mother flashed through his mind. His mother died when giving birth to him. Nobody blamed him, but George knew he was the cause for his mother's death. George tried to picture his mother, he had never ever see his mother before. His father burned every picture and documents of his mother. His father did not want George to have any memories and thus misses her.

Suddenly, George heard shouts coming from the field. The shouts were very familiar, but George could not recall to whom the voices belonged to.

Just who do the voices belong to?

Chapter 2

George sprinted towards the soccer field, he did not want to be late. As he reached the field, the game had just started. George observed the players every single move. "Wow, that was awesome!" George exclaimed.

After the first half of the game, Lenny shouted from above, waving his hands wildly, "George, up here!" George turned his head and saw Lenny. His new found friend also love soccer! Was that coincident? George looked around again, hoping that the BULLIES did not appear.

George went to find the soccer coach after the match. "Sir, I would like to join the soccer team." George said politely. The soccer coach glance at George and said, " We only allow 12 years old and above to join, you don't lokk like you are 12, maybe a few years more, kid."

"But Sir. I am 12 years old, just that...just that ...I am a little small size." George murmured. The soccer coach glance at George again," Come back tomorrow, I will give it a thought."

The next day, George went to the field to meet the coach, the players were all practicing. George hoped that one day, he can play for the national competition and make his father proud of him.

" Kid, come over here," the coach said. "I have make my decision."

Will George get into the soccer team or will he be rejected?

Chapter 1

" Class, listen! I'm going to return you the test you did last week," Mrs Kim shouted at the top of her voice. The students murmured and whispered among themselves. As Mrs Kim walked towards every table, George crouched as low as he could.

" Well done, George. You scored 95 marks and the class highest mark," Mrs Kim praised him as she handed him the paper. George took a glanced at his paper and stuffed it in his bag. He was proud of his work but dare not to show off.

After the lessons, George was packing his bag when the BULLIES towered over him. " Hey, Weak Baby, you scored 95 marks, huh?" the BULLIES sneered contemptuously. " Not bad... for a baby." The trio started shoving and pushing him.

Just then, Lenny stormed into the classroom and hollered," Don't bully my friend! He may be smaller in size but he is NO baby!"

" Hey, Buck Tooth, don't poke your nose into this affair! This is none of your business!" Simon, the gang leader exploded, as he grabbed Lenny's collar. " Don't mess with us, Buck Tooth!"

George pulled his hair in frustration, this wasn't the first time. George heaved a sigh before saying, " What do you want?" The BULLIES turned their attention on him and sneered, "Hm, glad you ask. What did he do for us the last time? Oh, he hopped around the field. Erm, how about doing homework for us, there is quite a lot today, okay?

The BULLIES started taking out their homework and piled it in front of George. Little did they know that Mrs Kim was standing out the class and heard every single word.

" Simon, Raymond and Domino, why are the papers not in your bags? You want George to do it for you?" Mrs Kim smiled, definitely not in a friendly way, her eyes were sending chills down their spines. "Come out here, I need to talk to you and inform your parents about your behaviours."

"George and Lenny, you can go home now," Mrs Kim told them. As George and Lenny walked passed the BULLIES, the BULLIES hissed, "Watch out!"
